Milapulse is a non-commercial hobby project: a small place for family and friends to write, read each other and play a few games. It makes no money, shows no advertising and sells nothing, your data included. We keep as little about you as we can. This page follows the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who we are

Milapulse is run by Dalipeer Networks (DPN) from Nairobi, Kenya. For anything about your data, write to privacy@milapulse.com.

2. What we keep, and why

2.1 Your account

Your email address and password (stored only as a one-way hash) are kept by our sign-in service, with a record of sign-ins that includes the IP address and browser used. If you signed up after it asked, it also records that you confirmed you are 18 or older. Milapulse itself keeps your handle, when you joined, and a random identifier that links the two. It does not keep your email address.

Why: to give you an account, let you recover it and keep it safe. This is part of the service you signed up for.

2.2 What you share

Your posts, comments and pictures, your profile (name, a few lines, a link, and a picture if you add one), who you follow, and the games you play and the invitations you send. A post is for your followers unless you make it public, so who follows whom decides who can read a followers-only post. Nothing is read or inferred from your pictures.

Why: this is the service. Showing your games on your profile and appearing on the leaderboard are off until you turn them on.

2.3 Technical logs

Our servers log requests (IP address, page, time, browser) to keep Milapulse secure and working.

2.4 Cookies

Two cookies, both needed for Milapulse to work, so there is no cookie banner: milapulse_session keeps you signed in (it ends after 7 days without use), and mp_returning remembers, for 180 days, only that this browser has signed in before. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

2.5 Release emails

When Milapulse changes in a way you would notice, we email members a short note about it. It is only ever about Milapulse. This is on by default; turn it off in Settings or with the one-click unsubscribe link in any of these emails. No tracking of whether you open our emails or click their links.

We may also email you about your account, or about a change to this page or our terms, even if release emails are off.

3. Who else sees it

Nobody, except the providers we pay to run Milapulse for us: our hosting provider, whose servers hold everything above, and the service that delivers our email. Both are in the European Union and act only on our instructions. We give your data to anyone else only if a court or the law requires it.

Because those servers are in the EU, your data leaves Kenya. The EU's data protection law gives it at least the protection of Kenyan law.

4. How long we keep it

• Your account and what you share: until you delete it, or delete your account.
• Sign-in records: one year. Technical logs: 14 days.
• Moderation records (what was done, to which handle, and why): up to one year.
• Backups: overwritten within 7 days.

5. Your rights

You can see, correct, download and delete your data, object to how we use it, withdraw a choice you made, and complain. Most of it you can do yourself, straight away, in Settings: Download my data, Delete my account, edit your profile, and switch release emails and the leaderboard on or off. Deleting your account removes everything Milapulse holds about you at once, and your sign-in account within a few days.

For anything else, write to privacy@milapulse.com from the address on your account. It is free, and we answer within the time the law sets.

You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya (odpc.go.ke) or, in the EU, to the data-protection authority where you live.

6. Security

Everything is encrypted in transit, and only the people who run Milapulse can reach its servers. If a breach puts your data at risk, we report it to the Data Protection Commissioner within 72 hours and tell you without delay.

7. Age

You must be 18 or older to have an account.

8. Changes

If we change this page in a way that affects you, we tell you on Milapulse and by email at least 30 days before it takes effect.
