Pamzo blames Harambee Stars' AFCON 2025 failure on 'low quality' Kenyan league

Former Shabana and Tusker coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo has expressed concern over the declining quality of the FKF Premier League, citing it as a reason for Harambee Stars missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Tusker coach viewed the unsuccessful attempt to qualify for Morocco as a reflection of the team's decline in recent years. He noted that the FKFPL once attracted quality players from across the region, but that is no longer true.

"The results we achieved in the qualifiers show where we are. It exposed the gap between us and teams outside the region. It shows the drop of quality in our leagues," he told SportsBoom.

Pamzo believed that Kenya could secure one of the two tickets available from Group J, rather than settling for the third-place finish achieved by Harambee Stars. He deemed the performance shameful, especially as neighboring Tanzania and Uganda advanced and made notable progress in their development.

Kenya will observe AFCON from home, while Uganda and Tanzania will compete in Morocco. Regarding the next steps for Harambee Stars after their AFCON disappointment, Pamzo commented: "We should focus on catching up with the other East African teams. The performances the rest of the onteams from the region put in the qualifiers tells how much ground they have covered," he added.

"We have always wanted to plug in the gap between us and teams from North and West Africa. I think we shouldn't focus on that as we are no where near them in terms of quality and level."
