Beatrice Chebet 'satisfied' with dominant victory in Seville as build up for 2025 kicks off

Beatrice Chebet showcased her class by winning top honors at the Cross Internacional de Itálica, a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold meeting, in Seville on Sunday.

The double Olympic champion had a strong start, quickly creating a significant lead. Her main competitors, Kazakhstan’s Deisy Jepkemei, Uganda’s Charity Cherop, and Kenya’s Mercy, Diana, and Sharon Chepkemoi, couldn't match Beatrice Chebet's strength.

European 5000m bronze medallist Marta García, fellow Spaniard Carolina Robles and Sarah Lahti were also in the mix, looking to outsmart Beatrice Chebet but they were not formidable enough to match up to her standards.

Heading into the final stretch, Beatrice Chebet maintained her confidence and unleashed a 7:42 lap to claim top honours. Chebet crossed the finish line in 23:32 with Daisy Jepkemei coming in second in a time of 23:59. Charity Cherop completed the podium in a time of 24:35.

Beatrice Chebet was thrilled to have raced against youngsters and finally gotten her first victory after two previous attempts that saw her fail to live up to the billing.

“It was my third appearance here, and I managed to triumph at last so I’m very satisfied. It has also been very nice to share the weekend with my young compatriots Mercy, Diana, and Sharon Chepkemoi,” the world 5000m bronze medallist said.

Beatrice Chebet has had an outstanding season, beginning with her title defense at the World Cross Country Championships, followed by a victory in the 5000m at the Diamond League meeting in Doha, where she clocked 14:26.98.

The 24-year-old then shattered the 10,000-meter world record at the Prefontaine Classic, clocking a stunning 28:54.14 to cross the finish line. Beatrice Chebet proceeded to finish second behind Faith Kipyegon in the 5000m at the Kenyan Olympic trials.

At the Paris Olympic Games, Chebet made history by winning the 5000m and 10,000m titles. She continued her success with a solo victory in the 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich, followed by a win in the 3000m at the Grand Prix Lombardia.

Chebet concluded her track season with a victory in the 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.
